Egg-Citing Easter Holidays in the Western Lake District

Have a break from the norm of chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate this Easter and instead choose an egg-citing family holiday in the Lake District.

Before we know it, the school Easter holidays will be here. A whole 2 weeks to entertain the kids and a great chance to book a weeks holiday or even just a long weekend or midweek break. Whichever is possible, it is a great chance to make the most of time off, longer days and spring weather.

Being the Adventure Capital of the UK and a family friendly holiday, what better destination than the Lake District to spend Easter. Outdoor adventure, fun, family bonding and tired children at the end of the day, what more could you ask for!

A family canoeing activity on Wastwater, Western Lake District

And Easter could be the ideal time to look at venturing to a different area of the Lake District. Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick are amazing places but most visitors have already been to them. Why not have a change this Easter and come out west? The Western Lake District is home to England’s deepest Lake, tallest mountain and most dramatic scenery so it makes complete sense for some outdoor adventuring.

You won’t find steam boats on Wastwater, England’s deepest lake but you can enjoy this lake by walking around it or canoeing on it. At the head of Wastwater and the Wasdale Valley is the imposing Scafell, Scafell Pike and Great Gable can be seen. A guided fell walk up any of these is a really great way of introducing children to the delights of this pastime and the views (on a clear day!) or breathtaking. Move along to the next valley, Eskdale and this multi functional area offers ghyll scrambling, fast flowing river canoeing, mountain biking and rock climbing.
